  • ing up every available consumer dollar and then doling it back out in the form of subsidies. I do not agree with the idea that government should be directly involved in people’s lives in this way. In my opinion, this approach hampers personal responsibility and freedom of choice, creating a situation where the government is seen as a provider of goods and services rather than a facilitator of them. Government may have a role in providing certain safety nets, such as unemployment insurance and health care, but it should not be the sole arbiter of what people can and cannot purchase. Additionally, such an approach can lead to inefficient use of taxpayer dollars as funds are diverted away from other areas. In short, I believe that government should provide an enabling environment for citizens to make their own decisions, rather than attempting to dictate them.
